Ethernet Connection (Mac OS) (click here to go back to Tenants Main)

Minimum Requirements

  • Power Macintosh (earlier models will work, but ISD only supports Power Macintosh models)
  • MacOS 7.6 (earlier versions will work, but ISD only supports System 7.6 and higher)
  • 8MB of RAM Memory
  • 10baseT Ethernet card (standard on most Macintosh desktops)
  • RJ45 Ethernet cable
Your computer must be connected to the data port (regardless of whether the connection is active).  Then: 
  1. Click on your Apple menu at the top right hand corner of your desktop.        
  2. Go to the Control Panel and select ìTCP/IP Settingsî
  3. Make sure ìconnect via Ethernetî is selected in the drop down menu.
  4. When the TCP/IP window opens, click on the ìInfoî button at the bottom right.

 The following are several examples of valid Ethernet addresses:

           

08 00 07 80 ec 03

            08000880ec03

            00-00-c0-b4-2a-23           

            0-0-c0-b4-2a-23

            0:20:af:b:f6:76

            00:20:AF:0B:F6:76

 

The following in not a valid Ethernet address:

           

44-45-53-54-00-00

 

If this is the only Ethernet address listed, your Ethernet card may not be installed properly.  Try re-installing your Ethernet card, or contact your Ethernet cardís manufacturer for assistance. 

  1. Once you have determined your Ethernet card address,, go back to the ìTCP/IPî settings window in your control panel.
  2. Go to the drop down menu at the top of the ìTCP/IPî window that says ìConnect via:î and select ìEthernet built inî
  3. Then go to the next drop down menu that says ìConfigure:î and select ìUsing DHCP Serverî.
  4. Now, close the ìTCP/IPî window and select ìSaveî.

 

You should now be correctly configured to access the Local Area Network.
