Ethernet Connection (Mac OS) (click here to go back to Tenants Main)

Minimum Requirements

  • Power Macintosh (earlier models will work, but ISD only supports Power Macintosh models)
  • MacOS 7.6 (earlier versions will work, but ISD only supports System 7.6 and higher)
  • 8MB of RAM Memory
  • 10baseT Ethernet card (standard on most Macintosh desktops)
  • RJ45 Ethernet cable

Your computer must be connected to the data port (regardless of whether the connection is active).  Then:

  1. Click on your Apple menu at the top right hand corner of your desktop.
  2. Go to the Control Panel and select TCP/IP Settings.
  3. Make sure connect via Ethernet is selected in the drop down menu.
  4. When the TCP/IP window opens, click on the Info button at the bottom right.

The following are several examples of valid Ethernet addresses:

08 00 07 80 ec 03

            08000880ec03

            00-00-c0-b4-2a-23

            0-0-c0-b4-2a-23

            0:20:af:b:f6:76

            00:20:AF:0B:F6:76

The following is not a valid Ethernet address:

44-45-53-54-00-00

If this is the only Ethernet address listed, your Ethernet card may not be installed properly.  Try re-installing your Ethernet card, or contact your Ethernet card's manufacturer for assistance.

  1. Once you have determined your Ethernet card address and submitted it to us, go back to the TCP/IP settings window in your control panel.
  2. Go to the drop down menu at the top of the TCP/IP window that says Connect via: and select Ethernet built in.
  3. Then go to the next drop down menu that says Configure: and select Using DHCP Server.
  4. Now, close the TCP/IP window and select Save.

You should now be correctly configured to access the Local Area Network.
